The Boys & Girls Club of Easton encourages youths to take advantage of the mild winter weather by joining an open skate and BMX next week at the club.

The City of Easton will install temporary ramps at the club from March 1 through March 4.

“The goal is to present an opportunity for the ambitious skaters and BMX riders to freelance in a safe environment,” said club executive director Dean Young.

Children need a signed waiver from their parents to participate. Registration starts at 9 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, at the club at 210 Jones Houston Way on the city’s South Side.

Young is giving out prizes to the best-dressed skaters and bikers. He’ll be looking for kids who wear helmets and knee pads.  For those who do not have helmets, the club will loan them on a first-come first-served basis.

The event is a collaboration between the club, the city police department, and the city parks department.
