Tony Dreyfus, former secretary of state in the Rocard government and father of media man Louis Dreyfus (chairman of the management board of Groupe Le Monde), died on Wednesday April 26 at the age of 84, his relatives announced.

Member of the Socialist Party (PS), he was deputy from 1997 to 2012, mayor of the 10th arrondissement of Paris from 1995 to 2008 and business lawyer. Secretary of State from 1988 to 1991, he was responsible for the social economy.

Tony Dreyfus then enjoyed special status “with the Prime Minister”, his friend Michel Rocard, of whom he was one of the most eminent advisers.

The PS mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, greeted on Wednesday the one who “had participated in the formidable adventure of the left in Paris”. “I am losing a generous, benevolent friend, who accompanied me in my first steps as an elected official,” she added on Twitter. She announced that “Paris will pay tribute to her”, without further details.
