Japan Emerges as Major Investor in Ukraine’s Cultural Restoration Efforts, Says Ukrainian Minister

Today, Acting Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine, Rostyslav Karandieiev, highlighted Japan’s significant role as one of the top investors in Ukraine’s cultural infrastructure and restoration efforts. This announcement came during a meeting with Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, Masahiro Komura, at the International Conference “Towards the Recovery of the Cultural Sector of Ukraine” in Vilnius on June 7.

Karandieiev expressed his gratitude towards Japan for their support in various sectors such as infrastructure, information technologies, culture, and media. He specifically mentioned the support received from the city councils of Tokyo, Kyoto, and Yokohama for their contributions to local projects in Ukraine. The Acting Minister also acknowledged Japan’s backing of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s initiative for the Global Peace Summit.

Looking ahead, Karandieiev expressed hope for further collaboration with Japan, particularly in establishing a fund for the preservation of cultural valuables in Ukraine. On the other hand, Vice-Minister Komura emphasized Japan’s commitment to supporting Ukraine’s restoration process through both state and private partnerships.

The outcomes of the Vilnius conference will be shared at the upcoming International Conference on the Reconstruction of Ukraine in Berlin on June 11-12. This collective effort aims to address the challenges faced by Ukraine and pave the way for lasting peace in the region.
