The Spanish Ministry of Defense has responded to the requests for material made by the Ukrainian Minister Oleksii Reznikov during his visit to Madrid on April 12. The politician came to the capital of Spain accompanied by his Chief of the Navy and was very clear during the press conference in his requests, stating that one of the priorities was to defend the ships that sail in the Black Sea loaded with Ukrainian wheat. : “For this task we need ships, marine drones… we need more technical help of any kind that can support our Marine Corps and other components of the Navy,” he said.

Eight days after that request, the ministry headed by Margarita Robles announced at a press conference that Spain will send material for “maritime and amphibious projection and protection capacity.” In the statement, in which it is announced that the minister will participate this Friday in the meeting of the Ramstein Group, they recall that it is considered key to ensure the maritime green route, which allows the exit of Ukrainian grain through the Black Sea, essential to support the United Nations World Food Program and to help the African and Asian countries most affected by famine”.

Although the type of material that we are going to send is not specified, Spain has already sent the Spanish Harpoon, a type of anti-ship missile developed in the United States and which, according to Reznikov, is helping a lot in the defense of the Black Sea. It should be remembered that Ukraine sank the Moscow ship, the flagship of the Russian Navy, a year ago.

Robles will also announce during the meeting the reinforcement of the shipment of material in other areas, such as areas such as mobility, armor and protection of land forces. They will also continue with the training of Ukrainian soldiers in Spain, a training that is part of a European mission but in which Spain is a pioneer and that increasingly covers more areas. Reznikov also asked for training in the Navy during the visit, since he considered that the Spanish woman is a frontrunner.

The Ramstein Group is a group of 40 countries that, convened by US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, have met regularly since April of last year to listen to Ukraine’s needs and coordinate in sending humanitarian and military aid. This will be their eleventh meeting.
