The first six Leopard 2 6A4 main battle tanks that Spain is going to send to Ukraine have arrived at the port of Santander after being repaired in Alcalá de Guadaíra (Seville), from where they left last Monday.
The tanks, which arrived in the Cantabrian capital on Tuesday, will depart from the port of Santander to Ukraine, although it has not been specified when they will be sent to the Slavic country “for security reasons”, as reported by the delegate at a press conference on Wednesday of the Government in Cantabria, Ainoa Quiñones.
The transfer of the Leopard to Santander has been carried out after its set-up and the practices carried out in recent days at the Cerro Muriano military base, in Córdoba.
These maneuvers made it possible to verify that the armored vehicles are “in perfect working order,” Defense Minister Margarita Robles explained last week.
Meanwhile, at the Santa Bárbara Sistemas factory, in Alcalá de Guadaíra, work is being done to fine-tune the other four tanks recently committed by the Government, which will also send another 20 TOA (Armoured Caterpillar Transport) armored vehicles to Ukraine.
