The Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD) has asked the European Data Protection Committee (CEPD) to assess privacy violations related to OpenAI’s artificial intelligence chat, ChatGPT. The software had been temporarily banned in Italy for illegally collecting data from its users.

“The AEPD understands that global processing operations that can have a significant impact on the rights of individuals require coordinated decisions at the European level,” an agency spokesperson said in an emailed statement.

“Therefore, in the short term, it has requested that the issue of ChatGPT be included in the next CEPD plenary session, so that harmonized actions can be applied within the framework of the application of the General Data Protection Regulation.”
