Two civilians were killed this Saturday in Russian attacks against the city of Avdiivka, in eastern Ukraine, the administration of the Donetsk region reported this Sunday.

In one of its few offensives in months, the Russian army continued its assaults on Avdiivka for a fifth day, with shelling so fierce that emergency teams were unable to recover the dead from the destroyed buildings.

The administration of the Donetsk region said this morning on the Telegram messaging app that one more person has been injured in another part of the region.

The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces said Sunday that its forces have repelled 15 Russian attacks near Avdiivka, Tonenke and Pervomaiske in the Donetsk region, while Russian forces launched heavy airstrikes in the area.

Oleh Sinehubov, governor of the Kharkov region, also in eastern Ukraine, has announced that a 54-year-old woman and a 57-year-old man have been killed and a woman wounded in a Russian airstrike overnight.

Both sides deny attacking civilians in the war Russia launched against its neighbor in February last year.
