Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) – A special funding program will provide 100.4 million euros this year for construction projects in rural areas. 1392 projects are being supported throughout Baden-Württemberg, as announced by the Ministry for Food, Rural Areas and Consumer Protection in Stuttgart on Friday.

The Rural Development Program (ELR), which has existed in a similar form since 1995, promotes the construction of housing and commercial space in unused rural areas. The investments initiated this year are said to total 864.7 million euros.

In the “commercial sector”, “new buildings would only be funded if they were built with wood or a comparable CO2-storing building material,” explained Minister Peter Hauk (CDU). A total of 40 percent of the projects this year were funded under the criterion of CO2 storage.
