Tomorrow, Tuesday, the Council of Ministers will approve an order by which it will withdraw from the former president of Chile Augusto Pinochet the Great Cross of Military Merit that Spain granted him in 1975, during the dictatorship of Francisco Franco.

This was announced this Monday by the acting President of the Government and Secretary General of the PSOE, Pedro Sánchez, with a message published on his social networks in the midst of his convalescence due to Covid infection.

“Fifty years ago, Chilean democracy was the victim of a brutal attack that shook the world. Today, September 11, is the time to repair a historical injustice. Tomorrow the Council of Ministers will withdraw the Grand Cross of Military Merit from the dictator Pinochet granted in 1975,” Sánchez announced coinciding with the anniversary of the coup d’état that Pinochet carried out in Chile in 1973 and which put an end to the democratic mandate of Salvador Allende, who died in the presidential palace of the Casa de la Moneda after refusing to flee the country. .

Precisely, the head of the Executive will not be able to attend the meeting of the Council of Ministers that will make this decision because he is still infected with covid, as he announced on Thursday when taking a test before traveling to the G-20 summit. In her place, Vice President Nadia Calviño will lead the cabinet meeting.
