LFI MP Rachel Kéké, ex-maid, assured Friday that she had kept her social housing since she was legally elected, recalling that her “life before will continue after her mandate”, in a press release broadcast on X (ex-Twitter).
The deputy, who has lived in social housing in Chevilly-Larue (Val-de-Marne) for seven years, is supported by the leader of the Insoumis Jean-Luc Mélenchon. He denounced on X a “new controversy of the fachos”, after certain media denounced the fact that she did not leave her accommodation, while she now has a deputy’s allowance which allows her to rent a private apartment.
Jean-Luc Mélenchon said he wanted her to stay in this HLM accommodation “even if her rent was adjusted”, also emphasizing that she was “not elected for life”. “And it’s a good thing that the people’s elected representatives do not abandon the lives of their own,” he continued.
In her press release, Ms. Kéké explains that she contacted her social landlord as soon as she was elected in June 2022. The latter informed her that she could stay in her apartment by paying “surrent”.
This is the choice she made, for her four children “who have their lives here”, and “to carry out (her) mandate as closely as possible to the realities on the ground”, she specifies.
“All my life I have been a precarious worker, I have lived all my life in working-class neighborhoods,” explains Rachel Kéké, who “does not see her role as an elected official as a career.”
“My life before continues and will continue after my mandate as an MP”, she justifies, denouncing “an umpteenth attack from the far right”.
The CGT activist and former spokesperson for the long strike of chambermaids at the Ibis Batignolles hotel, who made her known, was elected in June 2022, defeating the former Minister of Sports in the second round, Roxana Maracineanu.
