Criticized for his rape remarks

During the Monday August 28 edition of his new television show, “Diario del giorno” (Newspaper of the day), Andrea Giambruno, a companion of the far-right president of the Italian council, Giorgia Meloni, made remarks that caused a lively controversy in a country still in shock after several cases of gang rape, in particular of minors, which occurred in Naples and Palermo. Summarizing the words of one of his guests who wanted to give advice to young women, he said: “If we go dancing, we have every right to be drunk, there must be no misunderstanding of any nature whatsoever. But if you avoid getting drunk and losing your mind, maybe you also avoid incurring some problems, because then you fall into the mouth of the wolf. These words were immediately interpreted as a speech of guilt of the victims. He defended himself, denouncing political instrumentalization.

Climatosceptic tendencies

Andrea Giambruno had already sparked another controversy by trivializing the extreme heat in July and minimizing the impact of climate change. This summer, he distinguished himself with an attack on German Health Minister Karl Lauterbach. The latter, on vacation in Italy, had alerted, on July 13, via the social network X (ex-Twitter) about the heat wave that was hitting the country, writing: “I am in Bologna and today I am going to Tuscany, the heat wave is spectacular. If things continue like this, these holiday destinations will have no long-term future. Climate change is destroying southern Europe. It’s the end of an era. Andrea Giambruno had answered him, on a television set: “If you’re not well, go home.” Go to the Black Forest, you’ll be fine there, won’t you? ยป

First gentleman

Born in Milan in 1981, Andrea Giambruno met Giorgia Meloni in 2015 while working as an author for a television show where the future president of the board was invited. Giorgia Meloni, a native of Rome, was then confined to the margins of the political spectrum. Despite their repeated support for the traditional family, the couple are not married and have an only daughter, Ginevra, born in 2016. Andrea Giambruno also claims different ethical positions from those of Giorgia Meloni, particularly on the end of life. .

Pillar of Berlusconi TV

Andrea Giambruno took his first steps in television at the age of 22, while still studying at the Catholic University of Milan. In recent years, he has gone from the backstage to the sets, becoming one of the faces of Mediaset, the Berlusconi family’s media group. After the legislative elections of September 2022, which brought Giorgia Meloni to power a month later, he left his post as presenter of the program “Studio Aperto” and the studios of Milan to settle for good in Rome. He has since taken over a current affairs commentary talk show on the Rete 4 channel called “Diario del giorno”.
