Mobile phone and Internet users are struggling with problems nationwide. The provider O2 announced that there are currently restrictions on mobile and fixed networks nationwide. According to the Allestoerungen.de website, reports of outages from the competition have been increasing since around 3 p.m. The Deutsche Telekom network is not affected, said a spokesman for the Bonn-based group. Vodafone spoke of slight restrictions, which are not a problem for customers.

O2 announced that the reason for the problems with mobile telephony was a fault on a voice transmission server. However, a large part of the telephone calls can be transmitted via other servers. They are working flat out to ensure that customers can make unlimited calls again. “We apologize for the inconvenience and ask for your patience.” Calls with apps like WhatsApp were possible via data transfer servers.

A Vodafone spokesman said there were only slight restrictions on LTE telephony in its own network. Calls would then be controlled via the GSM (2G) network, which is why it is not a problem for customers.

In the afternoon, around 19,500 mobile phone users reported disruptions in the O2 network on the allestoerungen.de portal. At allestoerungen.de, reports of alleged failures at Vodafone and Telekom also increased, although not nearly as much as at O2. The reason for this may have been that Vodafone and Telekom customers called someone in the O2 network and thought that the lack of connection was due to their own network – but in fact the network problems at O2 were the reason.
