That went wrong: The well-known fashion entrepreneur Tarek Müller defended himself against a penalty order and now has to pay 50 times the amount. “BILD” and NDR, among others, report on this.
The 33-year-old multi-millionaire was out and about with an e-scooter on Hamburger Berg (St. Pauli) in November last year. At 5:12 am, the police stopped him. According to the judge, he even “fell” during the check. An alcohol test revealed a value of 1.3 per mille for the young entrepreneur.
As a result, Müller received a fine of 1,500 euros. The public prosecutor’s office had apparently said nothing about the name, they had simply estimated his income and set a daily rate of 50 euros. In addition, the 33-year-old lost his driver’s license for ten months.
Perhaps that was the reason why Müller, who is regarded as a pioneer in the development of “e-commerce” in Germany, lodged an objection. That wasn’t a good idea, however, because he would have done well with the amount of the penalty.
The case was heard before the District Court of Mitte. Müller’s income and his accounts were also checked. Müller has been said to be a multi-millionaire since About You went public a year ago.
Result: The young entrepreneur now has to pay a fine of 80,100 euros for his ride on the e-scooter – because of “negligent drunk driving”. That’s 53 times the original penalty order. The daily rate was raised from 50 to 2670 euros. “If I punished Mr. Müller with 300 euros, he wouldn’t even notice it,” the judge was quoted as saying by “Bild”. “It’s in the interests of social justice. He should be treated like any normal employee. It has to be felt.”
In principle, the accused can withdraw the objection during the course of a trial if he realizes that his situation would deteriorate. However, the public prosecutor’s office would have to agree, which is not to be expected.
