The thermal social bonus is direct aid that is intended to alleviate energy poverty among the most vulnerable consumers who already have the electric social bonus.

Specifically, this aid covers part of the heating, hot water and kitchen services.

The Thermal Social Bonus was created with the entry into force of Royal Decree-Law 15/2018, of October 5 by the Government of Spain. Its management is carried out through the Autonomous Communities with the marketing companies.

Each municipality in Spain was assigned a letter of the alphabet, between A and E, where the first vowel indicates the areas with the warmest temperatures, and the last one refers to the coldest areas. The Community of Madrid corresponds to the letter D.

The minimum aid from the Thermal Social Bonus is 40 euros, but depending on the degree of vulnerability of the household, the autonomous community in which the household is domiciled, due to its weather circumstances, and the number of members registered in it, the aid can reach 400 euros per year.

In the Community of Madrid, more than 137,346 households benefited in 2022 from the thermal social bonus, which had a total budget of 70 million euros.

The amount to be received is paid into the bank account of the owner of the address during the first quarter of the year through a single payment. Once the holder of the aid has been received, he can renounce it or communicate his new bank details.

No application is required for this aid and it is received automatically if the residents are also receiving the social electricity bonus dated before December 31 of the last year.

To benefit from the electric social bonus, which in turn also facilitates the thermal social bonus, one of the following requirements must be met:
