Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) – AfD faction leader Bernd Gögel has criticized the strategy of the green-black state government to build up to 1000 new wind turbines in the southwest. Wind turbines make sense where the wind blows, usually in northern Germany, Gögel told the Schwäbische Zeitung newspaper on Monday. “We have to invest money in infrastructure to transport this electricity south instead of actually building 1,000 such things in our wind-poor state.”
According to the German Wind Energy Association and the VDMA Power Systems trade association, only five new wind turbines were installed in the southwest in the first half of the year. At the end of March around 760 wheels turned in Baden-Württemberg.
Since Baden-Württemberg is lagging behind in the expansion of wind power compared to other federal states, the state is trying to shorten the planning and approval period for wind turbines. With the target of up to 1000 new systems, every second one should be built in the state forest.
