Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) – As announced, VfB Stuttgart is returning to e-sports. For the coming season, the Swabians will start a team in the virtual Bundesliga of the German Football League (DFL) and in other national and international competitions in the field of football simulation, as they announced on Wednesday. The commitment should be expanded in the future.
“From the 2023/24 season, participation in the VBL as the DFL’s third competitive brand is set for all Bundesliga clubs. However, we don’t want to approach this competition half-heartedly as a compulsory exercise, but in the spirit of VfB with maximum ambition and good ideas,” said VfB -CEO Alexander Wehrle. For the club, e-sport is “a strategically exciting field with which we can reach young target groups and open up a new business field in the future. This should not be used to oust our core business of football, but rather to support and strengthen it.”
