1. FC Nuremberg relies on the derby boost in the DFB Cup. Before the first round game, the coach presents himself as a model student. There is a change in the Nürnberger Tor.

Nuremberg (dpa / lby) – “Club” trainer Robert Klauß regards the changeover from the emotional Frankenderby to the supposed compulsory task against a regional football league team in the DFB Cup as a major challenge. “It’s a question of character. I told my team that it will be a difficult game from the head,” said the 1. FC Nuremberg coach before the first round game at 1. FC Kaan-Marienborn this Friday (6 p.m.). Last year the “Club” failed in the second round at Hamburger SV.

The acclaimed Nuremberg derby heroes are the clear favorites in the game against the provincial club from Siegen. “The derby win against Fürth has given the team even more self-confidence. The push between each other is great. We need the right mix of self-confidence and sharpness,” Klauss demanded and at the same time warned: “We have to work just as seriously and well as we did against Fürth.”

Nuremberg’s central defender Florian Hübner (31) expects “a completely different game” a week after the local summit. “We’ll have more possession of the ball, we have to create more chances – you have to switch mentally. But I have the feeling that we have the right focus,” said Hübner.

Thanks to meticulous preparation for the stranger from North Rhine-Westphalia, the “club” doesn’t expect any nasty surprises. “We saw a lot of games on video and got information. We even had someone there recently,” said Klauss. The 37-year-old studied the opponent down to the last detail. “I know their starting line-up from the last game almost by heart. Now I know exactly how they got through in the premier league.”

Around 2500 “Club” fans should accompany their club after victories. As in the past DFB Cup season, Carl Klaus stands in for regular goalkeeper Christian Mathenia. “Fabian Nürnberger is also missing,” said Klauss. The midfielder is out due to “an irritation in his foot”.
