A rental vehicle driven by an English tourist that was circulating this Thursday on Avenida Nuestra Señora del Carmen in the municipality of Corralejo (Fuerteventura) has crashed into a business after going off the road in an accident that has also affected a terrace and that It has left a total of eight injured, five of them seriously.
The most seriously injured are a four-month-old baby, two women aged 18 and 49 and two men aged 40 and 43, all with serious polytrauma, who have been transferred to the Hospital de Fuerteventura, the Hospital Insular de Gran Canaria and Maternal-Child, also in Gran Canaria.
Likewise, a five-year-old girl and two men aged 44 and 50 have been injured with various moderate injuries, for which they were referred to the island hospital.
The events occurred shortly before 11:30 a.m. when the Emergency and Security Coordination Center (CECOES) 1-1-2 of the Government of the Canary Islands received an alert informing that a vehicle had run over several people who were in a terrace on Avenida Nuestra Señora del Carmen.
1-1-2 immediately activated the necessary emergency resources and SUC personnel, with the collaboration of four doctors, two of them pediatricians, and two nurses from the Corralejo health center, provided medical assistance to the injured in the scene of the incident, triaged and transferred those affected to hospitals.
The GES evacuated one of the injured accompanied by the corresponding medical team to the General Hospital of Fuerteventura.
Members of the La Oliva Fire Department collaborated with the emergency services in assisting and transferring the injured while the Local Police regulated traffic in the area, issued the corresponding report and supervised the evacuation of those affected to the hospital.
The Civil Guard collaborated with the emergency device deployed to the area of ??the incident and an investigation has already been opened to clarify the causes of the incident.
