The beginning of Carnival is defined by the Septuagesima, a three-week liturgical period that precedes Lent, as well as the ninth Sunday before Easter. In this way, Carnival 2024 will be celebrated from Thursday, February 8 to Wednesday, February 14.

Another of the most notable carnivals is that of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, which is one of the best known in the world. As is tradition, the carnival will start with the presentation of the Queen candidates and will end with the Piñata weekend. The official calendar of Tenerife includes February 13, Carnival Tuesday, as a holiday.

For its part, the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria 2024 Carnival program offers activities from January 25 to February 18, with a local holiday being February 13, Carnival Tuesday.

Carnival Tuesday, February 13, will be a regional holiday in Extremadura in 2024. And it is a festival with proven roots and tradition in the region, as demonstrated by the celebrations in Badajoz, Mérida, Malpartida de Cáceres (Request de la Patatera) or Villanueva de la Vera (Peropalo festival). However, the carnival atmosphere will begin much earlier, as the program opens the curtain on activities on January 12.

The Galician carnival, O Entroido (also called Antroido or Introido, among other names), is a celebration with a long popular tradition. In fact, 154 town councils approved setting February 13, 2024 as a local holiday to celebrate Shrove Tuesday. The Águilas Carnival 2024 (Murcia), a festival declared of International Tourist Interest, is celebrated from February 2 to 17 with a program in which there is no shortage of traditional elements such as confetti Cascarones and La Cuerva, a typical carnival drink made from wine and fruits.
