Delmenhorst: 80-year-old found dead: grandson arrested

An 80-year-old was killed in Delmenhorst – presumably by her grandson. Police officers found the woman lifeless in front of her house on Sunday evening, the emergency doctor could only determine death, the police announced on Monday. Her grandson was arrested as an urgent suspect. At the request of the Oldenburg public prosecutor, the 22-year-old should be brought before a magistrate on Monday.

The young man, who lived in grandma’s family home, called relatives in Rhineland-Palatinate and told them that he had killed his grandmother, it was said. The family members then called 911.

The grandson was found slightly injured in the grandmother’s family home in the Deichhorst district, first taken to the hospital and then to a police cell. For 80-year-olds, any help came too late. The woman was “obviously violent,” said the police.

According to his own statements, the grandson suffered a bleeding wound on his head during an argument with his grandmother, as a police spokesman said. The suspect initially did not comment on what triggered the dispute and the deadly escalation. “The motive is still completely unclear,” said the police spokesman.

The police had informed on Twitter that a man had been arrested during a police operation in Delmenhorst during the night. The officials said there was a suspicion of a capital crime, without giving any further details.

For the securing of evidence, the alleged crime scene was illuminated at night by the Delmenhorst professional fire brigade. Around 2:00 a.m., the first investigative work around the single-family home was completed.
