Pedro Sánchez has surprised the citizens by calling early general elections for Sunday, July 23, 2023 after the poor results of the PSOE in the municipal and regional elections this Sunday.
Thus, the Spanish will have to go to vote again and they will do so in the middle of the summer holidays. A difficult time for many voters, who will have trips and events outside their usual place of residence.
While the fact of going to the polls can be saved by requesting a vote by mail, those citizens who are called to form part of a polling station will not have such luck.
As contemplated by the electoral law, the draw to choose the members of a table is always held between the twenty-fifth and twenty-ninth days after the call.
That is, the draw to choose the polling stations for the general elections will take place between June 24 and 28, 2023.
Once the draw is made, the Zone Electoral Board will send the notifications to the selected citizens at their homes. These will have a period of 7 days to present their allegations if they want to try to get rid of it.
Only those who justify their absence with one of the reasons included in the Organic Law of the General Electoral Regime (LOREG) may avoid the polling station.
Subsequently, the Electoral Board must resolve the claims within a period of five days.
In addition, citizens must bear in mind that having requested a vote by mail does not exempt them from being called to a polling station.
