India’s top long-distance runners are gearing up for the Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon (VDHM) this weekend, with a strong focus on achieving personal bests and potentially setting new course records. The event, which holds a World Athletics’ Gold Label, will see over 36,000 runners from 17 countries participating in various categories.

Kiran Matre, coming off a recent victory at the TCS World 10K Bengaluru, where he achieved a personal best time of 29:32, is determined to make his mark in the men’s category. Despite facing a recent injury, Matre is ready to give it his all and hopes to make his supporters proud. He will face tough competition from Sawan Barwal, a bronze medallist in the previous edition and a strong contender with a successful track record.

In the women’s section, defending champion Kavita Yadav is looking to maintain her dominance in long-distance events, despite the pressure of defending her title. She will be up against formidable opponents like Priti Lamba and Nirma Thakore, both accomplished road racers with impressive achievements in their respective events.

The international elite category adds more excitement to the event, with former world champion Muktar Edris and Olympic gold medallist Joshua Cheptegei set to compete in the men’s race. On the women’s side, Birmingham CWG champion Eilish McColgan and Kenya’s Cynthia Limo will be aiming to make their mark on the course.

With a total prize purse of $260,000, the VDHM promises to be a highly competitive and thrilling event for both participants and spectators. The elite Indian runners, along with international stars, are all set to showcase their talent and determination on the Delhi roads, making it a race to remember.
