The kiss imposed by the former boss of Spanish football, Luis Rubiales, on the player Jenni Hermoso on the evening of the world coronation of the women’s team continues to cause waves within the Spanish Football Federation.
“The Royal Spanish Football Federation [RFEF] has decided today to do without the services of its communications director, Pablo García-Cuervo,” the federation wrote in a press release on Friday, September 29.
The dismissal of Mr. García-Cuervo comes in addition to the dismissals of the general secretary of the RFEF, Andreu Camps, considered close to Rubiales, of the director of the department in charge of Integrity, Miguel García Caba, and of the former coach of the women’s team, Jorge Vilda, who led the Spanish to the title of world champions on August 20 in Sydney.
Rubiales must stay away from Hermoso
Pablo Garcia-Cuervo, as well as the coach of the Spanish men’s team, Luis de la Fuente, were summoned on Friday by the judge who is investigating Luis Rubiales’ controversial gesture towards Jenni Hermoso.
The investigating magistrate also indicted Jorge Vilda as well as the Federation’s marketing manager, Rubén Rivera, and the director of the men’s selection, Albert Luque. The first two are summoned on October 10 and the third on October 16.
Luis Rubiales, who maintained from the start that this kiss was consensual, ended up resigning on September 10. He was interviewed on September 15 and has since been banned from approaching within 200 meters of the player.
