Free Rides for the Holidays by L.A. Metro
L.A. Metro is spreading holiday cheer by offering free rides on both Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. Starting from 4 a.m. through 3 a.m. the following day, all Metro bus and rail services will be complimentary, allowing residents and visitors to travel throughout the city hassle-free.
Micro and Metro Bike Share Included
In addition to free bus and rail services, Metro’s on-demand rideshare service, Micro, will also be free. Riders can access this service by using the code “Merry24” on Christmas Eve and “Ring24” on New Year’s Eve through the Metro app. This initiative aims to provide convenient and affordable transportation options for those celebrating the holidays.
Furthermore, Metro Bike Share is currently offering free rides through January 1st when riders use the code 010125. This promotion encourages individuals to explore the city on two wheels and enjoy the festive season while reducing their carbon footprint.
Metro GoPass Program
Earlier this year, Metro introduced the Metro GoPass program, which has seen over 400,000 Los Angeles-area students enroll. This program provides students at participating schools with unlimited free rides on buses and trains, promoting sustainable transportation options and supporting educational access.
Addressing Safety Concerns
Despite these efforts to increase ridership, safety concerns on Metro trains and buses remain a priority. Pressure to reduce drug and criminal activity has been mounting as safety issues deter some passengers from using public transportation. A survey conducted by USC Dornsife highlights the importance of addressing these concerns to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for all riders.
As we celebrate the holidays and take advantage of the free transportation services offered by L.A. Metro, let’s also reflect on the importance of promoting safety and inclusivity within our public transit systems. By working together, we can create a community where everyone feels comfortable and secure while traveling throughout our city.
