On Thursday, May 17, 2024, the Libération media revealed that former journalist Xavier Berne had managed to obtain the pay slips of the President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron. This approach, undertaken at the end of February on the Ma Dada platform, dedicated to the collection of administrative documents, resulted in the receipt of two documents from the Élysée at the end of April.
This is the first time that such a document has been revealed to the public. Xavier Berne expressed his gratitude to the Élysée for this effort at transparency. But how did he manage to obtain this information? He simply sent an email to the Élysée on February 22, 2024, invoking the right of access to administrative documents provided for by law. After a response received at the end of April, the pay slips were finally released.
Salary slips reveal that the President of the Republic is employed full-time and that he receives monthly remuneration of around 14,000 euros before tax, including various allowances. This is less than other presidents, such as Job Biden, the President of the United States who receives around double this amount.
Since the mandate of George W. Bush which saw its amount double, American law provides for paying the sum of 400,000 dollars per year (approximately 370,000 euros) to the President of the United States, or more than 30,000 euros per year. month.
For members of the government, the salary is calculated on the basis of the civil service index point. In 2023, this index point increased by 3.5%. After their mandate, ministers continue to receive a salary equivalent to that received in government for three months. Former Prime Ministers also benefit from privileges such as a private secretary and a company car with driver, for a period of up to ten years.
