Frankfurt/Main (dpa/lhe) – The Frankfurt SPD has again called on Mayor Peter Feldmann (SPD) to resign immediately. The party wanted to discuss further steps this Wednesday evening, she said. The further procedure will also be coordinated with the coalition partners in the city – Greens, Volt and FDP – said Frankfurt SPD leader Mike Josef. All options are on the table.
The SPD explained that Feldmann’s series of blunders show alienation from social democratic principles and represent a break with the party. The Frankfurt SPD had already asked Feldmann to withdraw on Monday. “If Peter Feldmann wants to do something for the party, he has to resign,” said deputy party leader Kolja Müller.
Feldmann had previously stated in a statement that he respected the request for his resignation, but would have liked to have been informed in advance. He only offered to hold back on public appointments for the time being and to let his party membership rest. The 63-year-old is accused in connection with the Awo affair and was under pressure again last week for missteps.
