Hesse: Smooth roads in Hesse cause several traffic accidents

Offenbach (dpa/lhe) – Slippery roads and snow led to the first traffic accidents in Hesse on Tuesday. In Ulrichstein in the Vogelsberg district, a snow plow and a truck collided, the police said in the morning. The driver of the truck was seriously injured. In the Fulda district, officials also reported three minor traffic accidents due to the weather.

The German Weather Service (DWD) in Offenbach announced snowfall for the rest of the day in Hesse, especially in the north, even at lower altitudes. From the evening up to ten centimeters of fresh snow are possible in higher-lying traffic jams. There is a risk of ice. In southern Hesse, on the other hand, it will remain mostly dry with temperatures of up to eight degrees. In the rest of the country two to five degrees are reached. During the night it snows first in the north, later mixed with rain in the south as well. On Wednesday, snow falls mainly in the southern half, which turns into rain at low altitudes. The temperatures are between three and six degrees.
