Home How to Clean an Air Fryer

The air fryer is the hot appliance. It is a not too big machine that allows you to eat healthier and save oil, the latter issue to be valued especially with the current prices of liquid gold. Just take a look on the Internet to see the large number of models available at affordable prices and the large number of recipes that are emerging for all kinds of palates. But what about cleaning? Is it easy to clean an air fryer?

Airfryers are capable of frying, grilling and even baking thanks to the speed of circulation of hot air. Despite so much work, it is said that they are easier to clean than a pot or a frying pan because they do not usually leave traces of oil and food stuck to their walls.

Of course, like any other kitchen appliance, it is necessary to carry out good maintenance to extend its useful life. Carrying out an adequate cleaning after each use is when it is possible to keep all its components as the first day.

Each manufacturer details the specific maintenance and cleaning tasks for their air fryer in the instructions, so it never hurts to read the manual before cleaning it for the first time. However, there are a series of steps to follow that are used for practically all models on the market.

1. To begin with, the fryer must be turned off and cold. It is then that all the removable elements of the appliance can be removed (grid, basket, tray or pan…) and left to soak in lukewarm water.

2. Next, it is time to collect the remains of food and oil that the machine has inside. Absorbent kitchen paper is the best ally for this job. The less time that has passed since its use, the easier it will be to remove the dirt.

3. Pass a soft kitchen sponge (or a soft brush) moistened with hot water through the inside of the appliance. Depending on the model, if access to the resistance is difficult, the fryer can be turned upside down to facilitate the task.

4. Clean the exterior of the fryer with a damp cloth. To improve the result: kitchen paper or a dry cloth to dry the machine.

5. The next step is to gently scrub the items removed from the appliance that were soaking one by one. It is recommended to use lukewarm water and a little bit of dish soap for the plastic components with the help of the soft side of a kitchen sponge, taking special care with the non-stick parts.

6. All that remains is to let the grid and other parts dry completely before putting them back into the appliance.

Some manufacturers recommend turning the fryer on for a few minutes before using it again.

How often do you have to clean the air fryer? It is advisable to clean the entire fryer, loose parts and interior after each use. This is the only way to prevent encrusted food from causing any damage that affects the effectiveness of the appliance.

A trick to try to extend the life of the gadget is to line the rack and pan with a layer of parchment paper. In this way, the pieces will not be in contact with food or oil. On the contrary, it is not recommended to use aluminum foil as it is a heat conducting material that can affect the performance and safety of the machine.

However, among the most important things to keep in mind when cleaning the air fryer is the list of objects and products that should never be used. No bleach or abrasive detergents, since they can damage the materials. Neither should metal brushes or sponges be used. The premise is to clean gently and remove all the fat from each piece to keep the air fryer like the first day.
