Honda revealed the next-generation technology for its upcoming “0 Series” electric vehicles during the “Honda 0 Tech Meeting 2024” in Japan. The company showcased prototypes of two 0 Series EVs at CES earlier in the year, which included the Space Hub and Saloon concepts. The production version of the Saloon is set to launch in 2026 and will serve as the flagship model for the new 0 Series sub-brand.

Honda is planning to introduce a total of seven 0 Series EVs globally by 2030, ranging from small to large models. The design theme for these EVs is described as “Thin, Light, and Wise,” with a focus on incorporating smart technologies such as advanced driver assist systems, automated driving capabilities, and AI-powered vehicle software.

The company is working on an advanced operating system for the 0 Series electric models that will utilize AI and vehicle data to learn driver preferences and behaviors. This system aims to make personalized suggestions to enhance the driving experience. Honda is also implementing new diagnosis and prediction technology gathered from 5 million Honda vehicles to minimize battery degradation to less than 10% after ten years of use.

To improve the efficiency and safety of the 0 Series EVs, Honda is developing a new high-strength steel platform that will house more compact and efficient powertrains. The platform design focuses on crash protection while reducing the weight of the vehicles. The “Intelligent Power Unit” component, which houses the battery and controlling hardware, will undergo a new manufacturing process to reduce the number of parts required significantly.

Furthermore, Honda engineers are working on reducing the size of the power inverter by 40%, allowing for a more flexible design. The vehicle platform will also feature a compact e-axle mounted low in the floor to achieve a lower center of gravity. A new steering stability feature will be incorporated to improve traction by flexing the vehicle’s body to control the load on each tire during cornering.

Looking ahead, Honda plans to unveil another 0 Series model with the latest technologies at CES 2025 in January. The company’s commitment to innovation and sustainability is evident in its efforts to revolutionize electric vehicle technology and manufacturing processes.
