Lancaster’s annual festival of lights, Light Up Lancaster, is back and ready to dazzle the city once again. From November 7th to 9th, between 5:00 pm and 10:00 pm, visitors can enjoy a free arts trail featuring 18 installations spread from the castle to the canal.

Producer George Harris expressed his excitement about the event, noting that the number of attendees has been steadily increasing each year. With a record-breaking 72,000 visitors last year, it’s clear that Light Up Lancaster has become a beloved tradition in the community.

This year, the festival has expanded to include two new locations: one on Lancaster Canal and another at Aalborg Square. The route is designed to take around a couple of hours to complete, allowing participants to leisurely explore the town and take in the beautiful light displays.

Originally starting as a simple firework display, Light Up Lancaster has evolved into a three-night extravaganza. The city council wanted to offer more to the community beyond just a short burst of entertainment on a Saturday night. By incorporating various installations and light displays, the festival has grown into a must-see event for locals and visitors alike.

The theme for this year’s festival is The Art of Science, adding an educational and innovative twist to the light displays. In addition to the visual treats, there will be British Sign Language guided tours available on Saturday evening, making the event accessible to a wider audience.

One of the unique aspects of Light Up Lancaster is that there is no set route for the arts trail. This allows participants to explore the city at their own pace, making it suitable for families with children as well. To add to the experience, there will also be a night market offering delicious food to enjoy while taking in the sights.

So mark your calendars for November 7th to 9th and get ready to experience the magic of Light Up Lancaster. Whether you’re a local resident or just visiting the area, this free arts trail is sure to illuminate your evening and create lasting memories for all who attend.
