A few days after the devastating earthquake in Morocco, which killed nearly 3,000 people according to a final provisional report, northeastern Libya was hit by unprecedented floods caused by Storm Daniel. The provisional human toll is very heavy with at least 3,800 dead and 5,000 missing in this country already ravaged by years of war and chaos. The surge of water during the night from Sunday to Monday in Derna broke two dams in upstream and caused enormous damage in this coastal town of 100,000 inhabitants where entire blocks of houses, cars and countless people were swept into the Mediterranean Sea.
