Schwerin (dpa/mv) – Inflation eased slightly in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in July 2022. At 7.7 percent, the inflation rate was still very high, according to figures published by the State Statistical Office in Schwerin on Tuesday.

In June, consumer prices were 8.1 percent above the level of the previous year, in May inflation in the North East reached an all-time high of 8.3 percent. Since June and until the end of August, the tax relief on refueling and the 9-euro ticket have been reducing people’s costs, among other things.

According to figures from the State Statistical Office, food and non-alcoholic beverages were 15.9 percent more expensive than a year ago, and people had to spend 7.6 percent more on transport. On the other hand, the statisticians found a slight drop in prices for post and telecommunications by 0.2 percent.
