Neubrandenburg (dpa/mv) – The trial for the joint murder of a man in Neubrandenburg, which was originally supposed to start on Tuesday (2 August), has been postponed at short notice. There was a sudden case of illness among those involved in the process, said a spokeswoman for the Neubrandenburg district court on Monday.

The trial against a 19-year-old Iranian and a 16-year-old suspect from Afghanistan is now scheduled to begin on August 16. Both are accused of arguing and then killing a 30-year-old from Afghanistan on a walk in Neubrandenburg on February 7.

According to the public prosecutor’s office, the reason for the attack was that the 30-year-old insulted a friend of the 19-year-old as a “slut”. The man was killed because of a violation of honor for base motives, the act should be considered a joint murder.

The accused are said to have hit the 30-year-old with a log, among other things, and kicked and hit him when he was already on the ground, as witnesses observed. Passers-by intervened and called for help. The alleged perpetrators fled, were caught in the vicinity a short time later and were taken into custody. The victim had severe head injuries and died in a clinic on February 18, despite prompt medical help.
