Waren (dpa/mv) – When rescuing a seriously injured cyclist in Waren an der Müritz, a rescue helicopter failed after landing on Thursday. As a police spokeswoman said, the 54-year-old was hit by a car at an intersection in the Papenberg prefabricated building area in the morning. The cause of the accident is still unclear. The helicopter had landed to take the seriously injured to a special accident clinic further away because of the critical condition. However, due to technical problems, he was not able to climb back up again.

The victim was then taken to a clinic by ambulance. The 37-year-old driver was not injured. The cause of the accident should be clarified by further investigations. The helicopter initially stopped on the road leading to a school, blocking traffic altogether. A second access road to the residential area is currently blocked by construction work.
