Essen (dpa / lnw) – The Ukrainian musician Ruslana sings this evening (8 p.m.) in Essen. Under the motto “Stand with Ukraine”, the now 49-year-old winner of the 2004 Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) will be performing in the evening (8 p.m.) on Kennedyplatz in the city. In view of the Russian war in Ukraine, the rally is intended to set a sign for peace and give the Ukrainian refugees a break from what is happening in their homeland. Admission to the event is free.
In addition to Ruslana, the Ukrainian violinist Vasyl Popadiuk and several politicians have confirmed their attendance. Among others, NRW state parliament president André Kuper (CDU), Essen’s mayor Thomas Kufen (CDU) and the Ukrainian consul general Iryna Schum are expected. It was immediately clear to the city that, like the initiators, they would support the event with their expertise and manpower. That was a “matter of honor,” said Essen Marketing Director Richard Röhrhoff.
