One dead, another injured in Osceola Parkway crash

An 86-year-old Ohio man has died after a Tuesday afternoon crash in Osceola County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Robert Amstadt, of Beachwood, Ohio, had been heading north on Storey Lake Road about 2:10 p.m. when he stopped at Osceola Parkway near Disney’s Animal Kingdom, FHP spokesman Trooper Steven Montiero said.

He then tried to turn left onto Osceola Parkway and pulled out in front of 22-year-old Kevin Cruz, Montiero said. Cruz, of Kissimmee, had been heading east on Osceola Parkway when Amstadt came into his path.

The front of Cruz’s four-door Nissan car struck the left side of Amstadt’s Ford Escape, ultimately leaving Amstadt with fatal injuries, Montiero said.

Osceola County medics then took Amstadt to Osceola Regional Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

Cruz received serious injuries in the crash and was taken to Florida Hospital Celebration Healthl for treatment, Montiero said.

Both men were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash and alcohol is not believed to have been involved, Montiero said.

Troopers continue to investigate the crash, Montiero said.
