His frontal opposition to the amnesty for those prosecuted for the illegal 1-O referendum in Catalonia was already known, but this Tuesday Alfonso Guerra has raised the tone against the transfers of the PSOE to Junts and ERC in exchange for their votes for the investiture of Pedro Sánchez. “History will be very hard on those who have caused this democratic mess,” predicted Felipe González’s former right-hand man in La Moncloa, in an implicit allusion to the leader of the party in which he continues to be a member.
During the presentation of No me resigno (La Esfera de los Libros), written by Nicolás Redondo Terreros, the former vice president indicated that he shares the criticism expressed in this publication by the former socialist leader in the Basque Country, recently expelled from the party for his public criticism of the current leadership: “When the time of independence had passed, the lifeline of the Government’s agreements arrived.”
According to Guerra, “nationalist demands have no end, they will never have an end.” In this sense, he has warned that, in addition to an “insatiable appetite”, the secessionists now have a “bot”, a computer application, that would allow them to hold a self-determination referendum “in an exclusively digital way, there is no need for ballot boxes or tables , nor ballots, nor the Police will be able to stop them.” “They have it already prepared. Every day they are saying that the date is needed,” he warned.
Furthermore, he stated that “when, in a matter of capital importance, a small 1% of the population imposes its criteria with the collaboration of the Executive Branch, democracy becomes volatile.” “If blackmail is practiced outside the country as a result of negotiation with an outlaw who is persecuted by the law, even the most distant citizen from politics wonders: how is it possible that decisions that seriously affect the nation are being imposed from outside the country? of the national territory and under the surveillance of an American citizen?”, he questioned in relation to the negotiations between the PSOE and Carles Puigdemont that took place in the Swiss city of Geneva with the presence of a Salvadoran mediator.
To which he added, provoking applause from the public: “The architects of such absurdity allege that they do it to reinforce coexistence, but it is clear that coexistence has deteriorated from this moment when everyone contemplates how the evildoers are the ones who “write the laws that exonerate them from being held accountable for their misdeeds before Justice.”
“A generally accepted principle was that the management of a Government is not measured by a point above or below inflation, however important that may be. Management is measured by the ability to unite the population around objectives common and general interests. Today, however, the purpose of building a wall that separates society is emphasized,” Guerra has stressed in an implicit criticism of Sánchez, whom he has not mentioned at any time by name.
Redondo Terreros, for his part, regretted that today is “a sad day” in reference to the beginning of the processing of the norm that will regulate the measure of grace for those involved in 1-O. “Surprisingly, some people who should not have the lack of information they have nor should be so shameless compare this Amnesty Law with that of ’77 and it has nothing to do with it. It is not an amnesty law, it is a law of impunity” , the former Basque leader has warned about a comparison that the President of the Government has made publicly.
In the opinion of the now former socialist militant, what this measure, which in his opinion is “anti-constitutional”, will do is “weaken the judicial system, the balance of powers, the coercive capacity of the State and, ultimately, the Rule of Law.” Furthermore, he considers that “it will not serve to improve harmony in Catalonia”, but rather “it gives the independentists greater capacity to impose their dominant thought.”
At the presentation of his book at the Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid, Redondo Terreros also stated that despite the title of his work he is not resigned. “On the contrary, I rebel because I believe that this political and ideological tradition of the best PSOE must be recovered; if possible, in the PSOE, if not possible, let those who have to do it do it,” he concluded, leaving in the air the possibility of a refoundation of the party.
Among those attending this event were former ministers José Luis Corcuera, Javier Sáenz de Cosculluela and César Antonio Molina; the former leader of UGT Cándido Méndez and the former deputy of Ciudadanos Edmundo Bal.
