Leipzig (dpa / sn) – The five-week-old daughter of the Asian elephants in Leipzig Zoo is called “Bào Ngoc” (German: “Precious Jewel”). The animal was named Thursday in the presence of Vietnamese Ambassador Vu Quang Minh and his wife Nguyen Minh Hanh, the zoo said. The suggestion for the name came from the ambassador himself, who is also sponsoring the animal.
Bao Ngoc was born on December 20th. Parents are the elephants Thuza and Voi Nam. The paternal grandparents were from Vietnam, hence the name. The little one is getting braver and is already playing with cousin Akito inside and outside the elephant temple, it was said. Two more cows from the herd are pregnant at the zoo.
