Dessau-Roßlau (dpa/sa) – The city of Dessau-Roßlau no longer wants to look for the location for the so-called Future Center for German Unity and European Transformation. “Since the state government is now publicly supporting Halle, we will refrain from applying,” said Mayor Robert Reck (independent) on Thursday. Saxony-Anhalt’s state government had announced that it would support the city of Halle in its application to the federal government and promised 50,000 euros for it.
With the new institution, the federal government wants to honor the experience of East Germans with change and upheaval. This involves investments of up to 200 million euros. The aim is to create a scientific institute that will also be a meeting place and event location. By 2028, the center is to be housed in a new or remodeled building in eastern Germany.
