Magdeburg (dpa/sa) – Eva Gerth remains state chairwoman of the Education and Science Union (GEW) in Saxony-Anhalt. At a delegates’ conference in Magdeburg, more than 87 percent voted in favor of the high school teacher, the GEW announced on Saturday. “We have years ahead of us that will be very decisive for the entire education system,” explained Gerth. She will work to ensure that the employees in the educational institutions are relieved.

Eva Gerth has been chairwoman of the GEW in Saxony-Anhalt since 2016 and previously taught mathematics and chemistry at a high school in K├Âthen. At their meeting, union members also discussed better pay for primary school teachers. Within the black-red-yellow coalition in the state, there are demands that this matter should be negotiated in the upcoming budget deliberations in the state parliament.
