Kamenz (dpa/sn) – In July, inflation in Saxony will remain high. However, the annual inflation rate weakened to 7.2 percent in July, the State Statistical Office announced on Thursday, citing preliminary figures. In June, the value was 7.7 percent. In July, energy (29.6 percent) and food (15.53 percent) continued to shape the overall development.

Compared to the previous year, more expensive fuel (24.5 percent) and flight tickets (10.9 percent) also weighed on consumers’ budgets during the holiday and travel season.

There were also declines in July in the main groups of clothing and shoes (-2 percent) and housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (-0.4 percent). According to the statisticians, the latter is mainly due to the elimination of the EEG surcharge for electricity (-10.1 percent).
