Berlin/Dresden (dpa/sn) – For 13,000 pensioners in Saxony, tax liability no longer applies after the increase in the basic allowance for income tax. You no longer have to submit a tax return. The FDP member of the Bundestag Torsten Herbst from Dresden spoke of good news on Monday. “Tax relief remains on the agenda for the Free Democrats. The decisions taken so far by the traffic light coalition will provide tax relief for citizens and companies of around 50 billion euros within two years.” The basic allowance increases this year from 10,347 euros to 10,908 euros.
The left-wing member of the Bundestag Sören Pellmann also welcomed the increase, but at the same time expressed fundamental criticism. “However, pension taxation remains a major annoyance for citizens. For many pensioners, taxation is incomprehensible,” he told the German Press Agency in Dresden. The traffic light in the federal government must finally protect small and medium-sized pensions from the tax office. “Increasing the basic allowance is not enough because of inflation alone. We need a major tax reform for pensioners and an increase in the basic allowance to at least 14,400 euros.”
