Nineteen people have been rescued after a tourist boat capsized on Lake Maggiore on Sunday (28 May) off the coast of Lisanza in northern Italy. According to firefighters, several passengers were still missing in the evening. Divers and a helicopter are looking for “several missing people”, fire department spokesman Luca Cari told AFP.

A video of the firefighters, published by the website of the daily Corriere della Sera, shows the helicopter flying over rough water, where chairs and other debris were floating.

The accident was caused by bad weather, according to Corriere della Sera. Lake Maggiore, which lies in the southern Alps, is the second largest lake in Italy and a popular tourist destination.
