The acting Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, has called this Friday at 4:00 p.m. the representatives of all the parliamentary groups of the Congress of Deputies to inform them about the current anti-terrorist situation in a context of tension due to the conflict between Israel and the terrorist organization Hamas, as well as the attack in Brussels.
At the meeting, which will be held at the headquarters of the Ministry of the Interior, Grande-Marlaska will convey to the political representatives the results of the meeting of the Terrorist Threat Assessment Table held this Tuesday, which decided to maintain the level 4 out of 5 of alert, although immediately adopting “complementary security measures.”
According to the Interior, the minister will also report to the parliamentary spokespersons on what was discussed on the matter by the interior ministers of the 27 member states of the European Union in the meeting they held this Thursday in Luxembourg.
The Ministry of the Interior ordered last Tuesday, after meeting the Terrorist Threat Assessment Table, that “complementary security measures be immediately adopted within alert level 4 out of 5”, which is the level in force since 2015. , following the attacks in France, Tunisia, Kuwait and Somalia.
This entails a reinforcement of devices in “especially sensitive points throughout the national territory and the increase in anti-terrorist measures by the State Security Forces and Corps.”
According to sources familiar with the device, this police reinforcement affected the embassies in Spain of Israel and Palestine, as well as those of the US, United Kingdom, Turkey, France, Jordan, Lebanon, Sweden and Denmark, among other points of interest such as synagogues. and places of worship.
This same Thursday, the Ministry of the Interior and the National Police have denied the hoax that is circulating massively on social networks in which, falsely, it is said that this police force has just activated an alert for an imminent attack. This is a message that already circulated and was denied in 2017 and that, six years later, has been reactivated, which is why they ask citizens to “trust only official sources.”
Interior sources have also called on the mayor of Madrid, José Luis MartÃnez-Almeida, not to make “partisan” use of the anti-terrorist alert, after the councilor has assured that he sees it as “reasonable” to raise the anti-terrorist alert after the latest attacks that have been recorded in other European capitals and the Christmas crowds.
Interior has recalled that the alert level is constantly set and reviewed “technically” based on the intelligence reports and analyzes carried out by the State Security Forces and Bodies and the bodies dedicated to the fight against terrorism.
