The forest fire declared at dawn last Saturday in the municipality of Puntagorda, on the island of La Palma, continues to be active on the southern flank, in the Jieque ravine, and in the Caldera National Park, while it has already Considered stabilized on the north flank, in the area of El Reventón.

This was reported by the Minister of the Presidency, Public Administrations and Security of the Government of the Canary Islands, Nieves Lady Barreto, who appeared at a press conference together with the Minister of Territorial Policy, Territorial Cohesion and Water, Manuel Miranda; the Minister of Ecological Transition and Energy, Mariano Hernández Zapata; the president of the Cabildo de La Palma, Sergio Rodríguez; and the technical manager of the operation, Montse Román.

Nieves Lady Barreto has indicated that the north flank of the fire remains without active flames and for this reason it has been considered stabilized. From the direction of the anti-fire operation it has been indicated that during the night the ground troops will work in the Barranco de El Jieque in tasks of “surveillance, direct attack on sources that may arise, and cool down”, and they trust that “with a favorable evolution , good news can be given tomorrow”.

The shelters made available to the affected people and animals are already empty and the evacuated area is limited to the upper part of the El Jesús neighborhood, in the municipality of Tijarafe, and the El Cura Hacienda, in the Caldera de Taburiente, and the restrictions on movement on the LP-1 highway have been eliminated.
