The Pasapalabra program has four new guests on the set these days willing to help the contestants in order to add seconds in the final test of El Rosco. On this occasion, the famous people in charge of spreading knowledge and good humor in the afternoons on Antena 3 are Josema Yuste, Eva González, María Gómez and Marwán. Let’s get to know this latest guest a little better.
Musician, composer and poet, it could be read on his business card. His name is Marwan Abu-Tahoun Recio, although he is known by his stage name, Marwan. The son of a Palestinian father and a Spanish mother, he was born in Madrid in 1979. Although he studied Physical Activity and Sports Sciences, his career was established as an artist; his passion for composing songs and writing poetry began as early as adolescence.
After gaining a foothold on the independent circuit, Marwán took off musically in 2008 with his first official album, Trapecista. Three years later, he presented The Things I Couldn’t Answer, a job that earned him the 2011 Guille Award for best singer-songwriter. That same year, he made his debut as an author of possession with the book The sad story of your body on mine (Planet / November Poetry).
From then on, the man from Madrid was altering his two facets, each time with more international success. If in 2014, he released the album Notes on my passage through the winter, a year later he published a new book, All my futures are with you (Planet), which was also translated into Italian and Portuguese.
Already well supported by Sony Music Spain and by Planeta, Marwán released the album-book My interior landscapes (2017), with which he toured during 200 concerts, and the book Los amores unstoppables (2018). His most recent works are the album El viejo boxeador (2020) and the collection of poems A woman in the throat (2021).
His first three books of poetry have sold more than 200,000 copies, while as a musician he has played in Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Palestine, Peru, Ecuador, the United States, Colombia, France, Greece, Russia, the Dominican Republic, and Belgium.
Likewise, the man from Madrid has composed, together with the winner of two Oscars, Gustavo Santaolalla, the “Nana de Urraca”, a song from the Amazon Prime Video series “El Cid”.
He has also composed for artists such as Dani Fernández, Lorena Gómez, Natalia Lacunza and Miki Núñez and has collaborated with artists such as Jorge Drexler, Rozalén Ismael Serrano, Nach, Iván Ferreiro, Pedro Guerra, Andrés Suárez and Conchita, among others.
His commitment, reflected in his work and in his solidarity events, led him to be named Musician for Peace in the European Parliament.
His success has not been a sudden explosion. As he recognized in an interview in EL MUNDO, “when I started to sound like something, I was disgusted when they talked about the ‘Marwán phenomenon’. What I have done has been to work non-stop. I have toured Latin America losing money, I went only to the city in the city playing for 40 people here in Spain, I would go to the colleges to look for an audience…”.
