The voters who will elect their mayors and a large part of their regional governments this Sunday will have an electoral day marked by instability, rain, showers and storms that will affect most of the country, except the Ebro valley, eastern Catalonia, the Cantabrian coasts and the extreme south of the peninsula, according to the forecast of the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET).
Up to nine autonomous communities (Aragon, the Balearic Islands, Castilla y León, Castilla-La Mancha, Catalonia, Galicia, the Region of Murcia, Navarra and the Valencian Community) will be under yellow warning due to heavy rains and storms, which could leave up to 60 liters per meter square in some areas of Alicante and Valencia.
The most intense showers will occur in the south of Galicia, western end of Castilla y León, south of the Valencian Community. However, they will be less likely on the Cantabrian coast, the Ebro valley, eastern Catalonia and the extreme south of the peninsula. Temperatures will drop slightly in the downtown area and remain unchanged in the rest.
Specifically, it is expected that in Galicia citizens will vote under cloudy skies with stormy showers that will be less likely in coastal areas and more intense and that could even be accompanied by hail and be locally strong in the south of the community. Temperatures will be around 24 to 27 degrees Celsius.
In addition, in Asturias they will have cloudy skies in general without precipitation but the spokesperson does not rule out a stormy shower in the interior of the Principality and maximum temperatures in the environment of 24 to 26 degrees Celsius.
In Cantabria they will have a similar electoral day, with cloudy skies but with little rain, although it does not rule out a stormy shower, especially in the surroundings of the Cantabrian mountain range and the Cantabrians will have the mercury at about 20 degrees Celsius in Santander.
To the east, in the Basque Country they will elect their representatives with clouds and with the possibility of some isolated stormy showers in the afternoon and with maximum temperatures between 23 and 26 degrees Celsius. For its part, in the Foral Community of Navarra clouds of evolution will grow from noon, with possible stormy showers, especially in the afternoon and more likely in the surroundings of the Pyrenees. Thermometers will reach 27 degrees in Pamplona.
The meteorological situation in La Rioja will also be similar, that is, with evolving clouds from midday and possible scattered showers that may be accompanied by a storm and that will be more likely in La Sierra and in Logroño they will reach 30 degrees Celsius.
The AEMET forecast for Aragon indicates that from midday there will be stormy showers in the Pyrenees and in the south of the community, which in the province of Teruel may also be strong. The mercury will be around 30 degrees in Huesca and Zaragoza and a maximum of 22 degrees in Teruel.
In Catalonia, for their part, they will have slightly cloudy skies in the morning and increasing cloudiness from noon with possible showers in the Pyrenees and also rain, showers in the province of Tarragona. Temperatures will be between 25ºC maximum on the coast and up to 30ºC inland.
In the Valencian Community the day will be marked by instability and cloudy skies and locally strong and persistent storms, especially in the south of the community. These showers will begin to diminish in the late afternoon. There they will have cool temperatures, between 22 to 24 degrees Celsius.
On the other hand, in the Balearic Islands on Sunday it will be a day of variable cloudiness in which there is a possibility of stormy showers that could also be accompanied by mud and temperatures will reach around 25 degrees Celsius in the early afternoon. In the Region of Murcia there will be very cloudy skies for a good part of the day and stormy showers that could be strong and temperatures around 25ºC.
Andalusia will also have very cloudy skies with the possibility of showers accompanied by storms, more likely inland. The Andalusian electoral day will be cool for the time in this community since the maximum will oscillate between 22 and 25 degrees.
Extremadura will experience an election day marked by stormy showers that will be spread over most of the community and that may also be locally strong and temperatures that “barely” will reach 22 degrees.
As for Castilla y León, the AEMET forecasts a May 28 with increasing cloudiness and stormy showers that are more frequent and intense in the west and south of the community, with maximum temperatures between 20 and 25 degrees.
Castilla-La Mancha will also have a cloudy atmosphere throughout the day and locally strong stormy showers are expected, although the last hours will be less likely. The atmosphere will be cool, with highs between 23 and 25 degrees Celsius. In Madrid the situation will be “similar”, with very cloudy skies and showers that will be less likely at the end of the day and with temperatures of about 20 degrees Celsius maximum.
In the Canary Islands, clouds of evolution will grow in the afternoon, especially on the islands with greater relief, where showers may be recorded that during the afternoon on the east-facing slopes may be somewhat intense. Temperatures in the archipelago will be around 25 degrees Celsius.
Finally, in the autonomous cities there will be cloudy skies with maximum temperatures of 23 degrees and it is not ruled out that in the autonomous city of Ceuta there may be a storm late in the day.
Once the polls are closed and the votes counted, next week, from May 29 to June 4, the weather situation will be similar to that of the weekend, so atmospheric instability will continue. For this reason, it is very likely that there will be quite widespread and locally strong showers and storms throughout the week in the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands. The interior areas will register the most probable and intense in the afternoon.
