Erfurt (dpa/th) – The CDU parliamentary group has demanded binding standards for the qualification and approval of lateral entrants in school work. The education politician of the CDU, Christian Tischner, pleaded in the state parliament on Thursday, among other things, for a three-month introductory training before lateral entrants should stand in front of a class for the first time. “A four-week crash course is definitely not enough.”
In addition, his group proposes more practical school exercises with experienced teachers. Retired teachers could also provide support. Special teacher training master’s courses at universities should be examined.
As a reaction to the shortage of teachers, more and more lateral entrants who have not completed a pedagogical degree are entering the teaching profession in Thuringia. A lack of teachers has been a problem for Thuringian schools for years. In a week in autumn 2022, in which a survey was running, about every tenth lesson had been cancelled.
