In Sweden you will soon no longer be allowed to drive e-scooters on the sidewalk. The Swedish government decided that, as announced in Stockholm. A corresponding driving ban on sidewalks will come into force on September 1st. Anyone who violates this can be sentenced to a fine.

“The fact that electric scooters drive fast on sidewalks has been a big problem in many places. Now that’s over,” said Infrastructure Minister Tomas Eneroth. Together with a ban on parking e-scooters on footpaths and cycle paths, this will improve accessibility and safety for all passers-by. Ultimately, the same rules will apply to e-scooters in Sweden as to bicycles and e-bikes.

A few years ago, electric scooters found their way into the cityscape in Scandinavia a little earlier than in Germany, for example. Especially in the Swedish capital Stockholm you can often see them whizzing through the city. According to city estimates, there are around 12,000 rental scooters there.
