This Thursday, September 21, the RATP and SNCF put an end to the sale of cardboard ticket books in all stations and ticket machines on the Ile-de-France network, said the Ile-de-France Mobilités regional transport authority. (IDFM).
The process of withdrawing “t” ticket books, started in October 2021, should have been effective from March 2022, but it was delayed due to the pandemic and the global shortage of electronic chips linked to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The direct successor to the ticket book is the “Navigo Easy” card, a pass sold for 2 euros intended for occasional travelers who can reload transport tickets individually or in tens.
Single tickets are also available by sending an SMS to take the bus, or downloadable on a smartphone – on Android for now, and iOS in early 2024 – through the “Ile-de-France mobilities” applications, “Hello RATP” or “SNCF Connect”.
The sale of single tickets maintained
Among other dematerialized solutions, IDFM particularly promotes the “Liberté” card, a subscription formula where journeys made are recorded and billed the following month.
Cardboard “t” tickets still represented 29% of ticket sales in Ile-de-France before their disappearance, according to IDFM, which wants to “adapt to the lifestyles of Ile-de-France residents with new solutions that allow you to save time, [to] accelerate the modernization of ticketing (…), preserve the environment”.
As for the sale of single cardboard tickets, it will be extended until the end of 2024 with the aim of “offering an additional option for tourists and spectators during the period of the Olympic and Paralympic Games of Paris 2024”.
